Abstract

Introduction: This research work is aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of Adlerian family encouragement training on increasing marital satisfaction and decreasing PTSD symptoms among disabled veterans.
Method: The research design is quasi-experimental, and the statistical population included all the patients referring to health centers in Tehran who were suffering from the Iraqi Imposed War-related PTSD based on psychiatrists’ diagnoses and the Mississippi PTSD Scale. The sample was selected using the convenient sampling method, the data were collected using the Mississippi PTSD Scale and the Enrich Marital Satisfaction Scale, and the collected data were analyzed using multivariate covariance.
Result: The results revealed that Adlerian family encouragement training decreases such clinical problem as re-experiencing, isolation, numbness, over-excitement, and self-irritation among disabled veterans with PTSD.
Discussion: Adlerian family encouragement training showed that family has a fundamental role in alleviating PTSD symptoms and increasing marital satisfaction in disabled veterans although this issue does not receive enough attention in current studies.
