[English]

Purpose: The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of group reality therapy on the quality of life and resilience of soldiers with a history of desertion who were referred to counseling centers.

Method: This research was conducted as a semi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the current study included all the soldiers with a history of desertion who were referred to the Army ground force counseling centers in Tehran in 2018. The sample studied in this research was made up of2 groups of 15 people who were selected by available sampling method and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. To collect data, the World Health Organization quality of life questionnaire (1989) and the resilience questionnaire of Connor and Davidson (2003) were used. The reality therapy interventions based on the therapy protocol were performed on the experimental group during 9 sessions of 90 minutes once a week. To analyze the data of this research, multivariate covariance analysis (MANCOVA) was used using SPSS-22 software. Findings: The results showed that the reality therapy intervention improved the quality of life and increased the resilience of soldiers with a history of desertion who were referred to counseling centers (P<0.001).

Conclusion: According to the obtained results, it can be said that interventions based on reality therapy, focusing on responsibility and making the right choice, increase the level of quality of life and resilience, and as a result, reduce desertion from military service.
