[English]

The aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of speech type on pain tolerance in Basij girls. The statistical population of this semi-experimental study with a multi-group post-test design was all Basij girls in Fasa city. Considering the population size of approximately 1400 people and the Morgan table, 316 subjects were selected by the available method and randomly assigned to one of four experimental groups: no speech, neutral speech group, swearing group, and Salawat group (a type of spiritual speech in Islam). The independent variable was the type of verbal group of the subjects and the dependent variable was the duration of immersing the hand in ice-filled water, which was measured in all four experimental groups. The results of one-way analysis of variance and Tukey's post-test showed that the subjects in the salawat group, who repeated the recitation of salawat in their minds while placing their hands in ice water, showed significantly higher pain tolerance with an average pain tolerance of 68.38 seconds. Given the inconsistent results in past and present research, the need for further research is suggested by establishing standard criteria to determine the intensity, duration, volume, and the kind of talk about enduring pain.
