This study aimed to identify veterans’ understanding of the role of spirituality and religious beliefs in the psychological rehabilitation process and to develop a theoretical model based on grounded theory. This qualitative research was conducted using the grounded theory approach based on the systematic method of Strauss and Corbin. The study population included war veterans living in Urmia in 2025. Theoretical sampling was conducted until data saturation was achieved. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 participants. The data were analyzed in three stages: open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The findings led to the identification of six main categories: causal conditions (spiritual resilience, faith-based social capital, spiritual self-care), central phenomenon (psychological reconstruction through spirituality), contextual conditions (spiritually oriented social interactions, supportive cultural-religious environment, foundations of pre-injury religiosity), intervening conditions (biopsychological limitations, economic vulnerability, lack of support resources), strategies (spiritual-social networking, strengthening religious self-compassion, application of religious teachings in emotion regulation), and consequences (enhanced psychological resilience, reduced psychological vulnerability, spiritually grounded social empowerment). Findings indicated that spirituality and religious beliefs play a significant role in alleviating suffering, facilitating psychological reconstruction, and improving the quality of life of war veterans. Accordingly, the proposed conceptual model can serve as a foundation for designing psycho-spiritual interventions in the rehabilitation process.
