Introduction: Satisfaction of life is a construct which has gained attention in recent years as one of the variables related to human health and well-being, especially among military personnel, more than ever. Hence, this study was carried out to investigate the relationship between the dark traits of personality and emotional expressiveness with satisfaction of life among military personnel in Ahvaz, Iran.
Method: The research method was correlational-descriptive. The statistical population included all the personnel of the military unit of the justice department in Khuzestan Province (301 people), and the sample consisted of 104 people selected through the multi-stage cluster random sampling method. To collect data, the Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire (King & Emmons, 1990), the Life Satisfaction Scale (Dinner et al., 1985) and the Dark Traits of Personality Questionnaire (Jennison & Webster, 2010) were used. Pearson correlation and multiple regression were used to analyze the data.
Results: The results indicated that there is a significant negative relationship between the components of dark traits of personality and life satisfaction (p < 0.001). The results further revealed a significant relationship between emotional expressiveness and satisfaction of life among military personnel (p < 0.001). In addition, the results showed that expressiveness and dark traits variables explained 31% of the relationship.
Discussion: The findings of this study could greatly help decision makers improve the conditions of military personnel.
