The present research was conducted with the aim of examining the mediating role of addiction to cyberspace in the relationship between self-efficacy and social adjustment among adolescent girls from military families. This study, which falls within the framework of social and developmental psychology, sought to understand how individual beliefs influence social behaviors and digital dependencies in this specific population group. Given the unique conditions of military families, which often involve frequent relocations, psychological pressures, and social restrictions, examining such relationships takes on doubled importance. This research can assist educational policymakers and counselors in designing effective support programs for adolescents in these families.
The research methodology was descriptive-correlational, and its statistical population included female secondary school students in schools affiliated with military forces. Sampling was conducted using a random cluster method, and ultimately, 249 adolescent girls participated in the study. The data collection tools consisted of the Morris Self-Efficacy Questionnaire , the Young Cyberspace Addiction Questionnaire , and the Bell Social Adjustment Questionnaire
In conclusion, the results of this research emphasize that strengthening adolescents' beliefs about their social and emotional abilities can indirectly, through reducing dependency on cyberspace, lead to an improvement in their social adjustment. This is particularly crucial in military families, where their adolescents often face emotional challenges. Therefore, it is recommended to design specialized educational and psychological interventions, such as workshops for enhancing self-efficacy and programs for controlling digital consumption, so that this population group can achieve a better balance between the real and virtual worlds.
